STRENGTHENING INCLUSIVE HOSPITALITY

Families with autism spend more than $262 billion on autism-related services each year in the United States. An increasing number of travelers are seeking accessible and inclusive travel options in their accommodations.

In 2022, Visit Greater Palm Springs became a Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Property management companies can become certified through the IBCCES and will benefit from increased property exposure, ongoing support, resources, and educational opportunities. Certified vacation rental managers will be listed on the International Online Registry of Certified Autism Centers and AutismTravel.com. IBCCES also provides ongoing support related to messaging, additional resources, and training modules.

Short-term vacation rental (STVR) owners can include accessible amenities in their properties to reinforce the importance of supporting individuals of all abilities. Spaces with low volume, soft lighting, and limited decorative furnishings areas limit sensory overload for guests with sensory sensitivities. ADA-compliant features like walkways, showers, thresholds, and wheelchair-accessible furniture allow visitors with limited mobility to feel safe and comfortable.
